The essence of "filexpertez for Linux" lies behind the find utility. Can you remember all the options of find? When you are in desperate need of some files, find is a perfect tool to search it across the directories. But it’s common to not remember the exact command line options for find. That’s where "filexpertez" can save you – both by presenting the find options in a graphical UI as well as providing a whole bunch more. For example, if you want to get a set of files, which have been modified within a specific time frame, or locate only the subdirectories or regular files, you don't have to remember the options of find; the friendly user interface of filexpertez will help you interactively set your required options to locate those files or directories. You can even search for files restricted through some permissions, such as if you want those regular files with only the read permission for the group and other user but all permissions for the owner; yes, you can easily locate those files by setting just a couple of options in filexpertez Advanced Search option. You can use the Advanced Search feature to make complex queries, such as locating a set of documents
- modified in the month of November 2008, and
- with size greater than 10 MB, and
- coming under the category of regular file with only owner permission to edit
You can set all the options through Advanced Search in one go, and get all files that match those criteria. You can also specify a specific subfolder depth in your search to limit the search up to a certain directory depth!
filexpertez also lets you search files of different types, such as bitmaps, documents, html files, binaries etc. within a folder in one go. In the Linux version, you can search through inode number too.
If the search succeeds in finding the matching files, you have the option to view the list of files before taking any action – replicate (copy) or erase (delete) – on those files. In this list view, you will be provided different legends for the various kinds of files. For example, the deletion operation of filexpertez provides three types of legend -- for directories, for files within your permissible area as well as for files which exist in the particular path but not in your permissible area, i.e., you cannot do anything with those files. If you want, you can exclude some of the files in the list, and proceed with only those files that are in your permissible area, filexpertez lets you exclude any number and types of files you want. For replication operation, filexpertez provides you two types of legend -- for conflicting files which reside both in source and destination as well as for non-conflicting files.
You can either replicate (copy) or erase (delete) a set of files using filexpertez for Linux. To delete a specific set of files, find those files through filexpertez search feature, and then selectively delete some or all of those files. The same is applicable for replication also. There you have the ability to not replicate the files that are common in both source and destination or replicate only those files which are newer in the source path.
There are a number of ways you can use this tool to manage your files and directories. The super-flexible search is also very fast, making it really easy as well as quick for you to do what you need to get done. You will discover more reasons to use this tool once you get started with it.
